BIOGRAPHY

Professor Andrew Sweetman is the Chair of Benthic Ecology and Biogeochemistry at the Scottish Association for Marine Science. He leads the Seafloor Ecology and Biogeochemistry research group and the Dark Oxygen Research Initiative, advancing understanding of deep-sea biodiversity and ecosystem function.

Andrew’s work explores how human activities and climate change affect benthic systems, from fjords to abyssal plains. With an extensive research record and global collaborations, he continues to drive innovations in marine science and the sustainable management of deep-sea environments.
